Product Description Originally developed for the Swedish Department of Defense, Swedish FireSteel is a flash of genius. Its 3,000°C spark makes fire building easy in any weather, at any altitude. Used by a number of armies around the world, Swedish FireSteel's dependability has already made it a favorite of survival experts, hunters, fishermen and campers. It has also found its way into cabins and backyards as a fool-proof way to light stoves and gas-barbecues.

Simple August 28, 2010 gtzyk (Georgia United States) Took it out the box, 1 cotton ball with a dab of vaseline, srike it a few times to get the hang of it. WOW fire, without lighters or matches. Completly satisfied.
Ha! This thing is too cool! August 22, 2010 ijohn (St Louis, MO USA) This thing is awesome. It easily creates a huge spark with minimal effort. Everyone should have one of these in their 'go bag'.
Bottom line...it works. July 16, 2010 Steven D. Larson (Kennesaw, GA) Picked this up at a Gander Mtn and was anxious to try it out, particularly using it with cotton balls rubbed in Vasoline. Produces a tremendous amount of sparks and ignited the cotton ball on the third strike.
Simple, effective, and reliable; this fire starter will be there for you when you need it most. July 15, 2010 G. (Nothern California) A mainstay for every survival kit, this firesteel is also great for everyday use around camp.
I always have the firesteel with me when heading outdoors in my survival kit. The sparks created by this are hot and plentiful and will easily ignite your preferred tender. It is also handy for lighting a stove, be it a white gas backpacking stove, or a good ol' Coleman propane two burner. I use it for this purpose when backpacking and car camping alike as I find it so simple and effective to throw some sparks onto the fuel rather than mess with a match or lighter. Plus it's fun too.
Sliding the included striker down the black metal rod creates a reliable burst of sparks even in the most adverse conditions. You of course still need some proper tender, or other easily ignitable material to get a flame started. For convenience when car camping I do start most of my campfires with a lightning bug nugget and a match. However, some good tender and the firesteel would be just as effective, just take a little longer.
The real value in a firestarter like this is the multiple uses in one small package, and the bombproof reliability of it always working when you need it most regardless of the conditions.
Great product and will serve you well.
It works May 26, 2010 big junior (florida) Spend some time in the yard to get this down right, as other reviewers have stated. You should be familiar with this and all your gear before you go out in the woods...
