GREAT Emergency Tool! July 22, 2010 FuzzyKidsMom VERY handy device to have for severe weather season in case it is necessary to quickly take shelter in the storm cellar where it will be kept, sealed in a ziplock plastic bag to protect it from moisture, and never a worry about dead batteries. I was delighted with its compact size and how well it functioned after the required two minutes of cranking to charge the unit. The LED light was VERY bright and radio reception was good, even in the rural area in which I live. Now I can rest more assured that next time the tornado sirens sound and I need to be in my cellar, at LEAST I know I will have a light and a link to the outside world.
I am sure this unit is NOT intended for every day use but seems perfectly suited for the reason I purchased it. A VERY good value for the money, indeed!

Works fine but you do need to be gentle with it July 21, 2010 K. Corn (Indianapolis,, IN United States) We tested and tested and tested this. Ours is still working fine and we'd use it in these situations:
1. An emergency light kept in the trunk of our car
2. In a pinch - if the lights went out (snow storm, heavy rain, ice storm, etc).In fact, this is so small that I keep it next to the bed. If the lights go out, this would get me to the rest of our supplies. No fiddling around with matches in the dark or worrying about a regular flashlight being out of batteries- but you do have to take the time to crank it. Of course, the battery does recharge as you crank it but the battery won't last forever. Test it regularly.
3. Perhaps as an addition to an emergency camping trip survival items.
You don't have to crank it long, only about 2 minutes, to get plenty of light. The light is NOT super bright but it does the job. The siren is NOT extremely loud.
You'll want to be very careful with the crank. If handled roughly, it could snap right off. For the price, however, you get a light, a siren, a radio and a cell phone charger. That is a lot packed into a very compact hand cranked light (and radio).
By the way, when you fold up the crank you have to make sure it goes into a special slot or you'll never get it closed tightly against the radio again. Instructions which come with this are not too informative.
Very useful July 16, 2010 Funwithgames 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I've been wanting to do this review for months. I purchased this flashlight in 2008 and in 2010 I still use it for small uses here and there. The nice thing is it does not need replaceable batteries.
The light is is bright when on high enough to see things and low also brightens things up well. Also used it at night on various occasions to look at the car motor and just search for general things at other times. I have also used it for book reading at night by placing it on my shoulder. It uses 5 LEDs on high and 1 LED on low.
We had a power outtage on the east coast a few months back that lasted 3 to 5 days depending where you where as the storms took out trees and left three states not having power to alot of customers. I grabbed this flashlight and realizing I had no other radio with batteries I used this and started listening for news on AM radio to see if I was the only one, since my house is an isolated area I had no idea if anyone else was affected. For the next few days I kept this flashlight by my side and would turn it on once in awhile to listen to news reports it was practically my only link to the world and it served me well.
Nice features about this light are that is has, built in radio. Reception works by turning it in different directions and using the knob, works nicely. The light has 2 settings low and high. It has buzzer built in siren sound that can be used to attract attention for very short distance.
Other: The built in slot of charing USB devices I believe that has to bought from the company as a seperate piece. I did drop it once or twice and the volume knob just kinda fell out but it was easy to put it back in. I read someone here saying something about a metal pin sliding out, on my unit I've turned the crank hundreds of times probably and it has no metal pin not sure if something has changed since I bought it. I do wish it had more protective rubber around it and even rubber buttons.
Overall I recommend this product for those who wish a to keep a quick use flashlight in an emergency or just put in your drawer or car glove box. Gets 5 stars for being useful when I needed it.
Useful, but with an annoying defect February 10, 2010 L. Pilotti (USA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I bought this because I plan on doing some extended hiking this summer, and it seemed like quite a useful thing to have on the trail. I got a chance to test it out this last week due to the large snowstorms we received that left my home without electricity. I must say that all the features work as indicated and to my satisfaction. I listened to the entire Super Bowl on this with only about 15 minutes total cranking time having to stop once at a commercial break and crank it again for a few minutes. I really only have one complaint about this product, but it is one that can be quite a hassle and one that I ran into, quite literally, after pulling it out of the box. The handle that one uses to crank the charger is attached to the unit with only a small, metal pin. Unfortunately, the pin does not stay in place and can easily move around so that it does not keep the handle in place. The first time that I went to charge it the handle came off and the pin fell to the ground. It took me about twenty minutes to find it in my carpet. If I had been outdoors it would have rendered this totally unusable because you cannot generate any sort of charge without it. After a while I became accustomed to always checking the pin was secure and in the correct position, but it still ended up on the ground four more times over the course of a week. Other than that, however, the product works well and just as it was described.
Flashlight February 2, 2010 Min Q. Sun (NY) I liked it a lot, it was easy to use, very bright, lasted for a long long long time! I don't usually exercise that much, it was great for me to exercise myself a little.
