5 out of 5 stars Great value.   July 19, 2010

These are fun little radios. It's also a cheap way to stay in touch out on the road or anywhere eles for that matter. The only draw back for me, is the batteries do not seem to last as long as they should. But over all this is a great product.

This is a great product. I got it for our boys to use while they are outside playing as an easy way to keep track of them. The range is good for what we need, it lasts about 2 1/2 blocks from the house. I would recommend buying these products.

2 out of 5 stars walkie talkie   July 1, 2010

They're supposed to get up to 18 miles. Bunch of crap. They worked for me for just under 1 mile, and then nothing, not even static could be heard. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY.

3 out of 5 stars Caveat Emptor   June 8, 2010

Can't speak for the touted range as we have only used them within a 1/4 mi of the house. But we have also stayed with the legal frequencies. Batteries provided required very frequent recharging, much more so than I would have expected. Gave up entirely on one set and started using my own.

Within one (1) month one unit quit transmitting. Replacements have arrived and are working fine...so far. Suggest that you keep all packaging, UPC codes, etc as they will be asked for should replacement become necessary.

Although units have worked well, I would not rate the buy as only "3-star average" because of the failure & battery life.

I have had these radio's for about a month. I used them on our vacation and here is what I found. We used one of the GMRS channels which takes advantage of the higher transmit power. Unlike other walkie-talkies, these do not allow you to select your power level. It is pre-determined by the channel you use. Battery life is good if left in standby ie turn them on and use them occassionaly. If you transmit and receive frequently, you can expect about an hour or so on the batteries. You may get longer battery life if you use the FRS channels vice the GMRS channels. We used the rechargeable batteries that were supplied with the walkie-talkies. We primarily used them in the vehicles while we traveled. Our cars got seperated by approx 1/2 mile with a semi truck between us and several other cars and they worked great, no indication they were about to run out of range.
