| Customer Reviews: Compact, but not complete. April 12, 2010 Wulfstan (San Jose, CA United States) 10 out of 10 found this review helpful
Another "Survival Kit in a Can" product. This has a cheap toy whistle (you need better), some foil for a signal mirror (inadequate), two types of matches (OK but a flint would be good also) some pretty darn good tinder- enough for one fire, a small Ok compass, some brass wire for snares (OK in some areas), some poor quality "fishing line/sewing thread", 2 hooks, and 3 yards of decent utility cord. For Medical, you have two bandaids, and two alcohol swabs, which are pretty much useless.
For "food" you have some gum, a mint, a packet of bullions, tea bag, and sugar. Well, since a real good idea when 1st lost is to STOP! and make a cuppa, this is OK for that purpose.
For tools, etc we have a foot of duct tape- very nice, a single edge razor blade (a good addition if you already have a decent knife) and as few other things.
The kit is compact, and fits in a pocket well. It is completely waterproof and sealed in a sardine tin. The bad news is, sometimes the tab tears off when you want to open this type of can. That's OK if you have another tool, but no so much if this is "it".
So, if you supplement this with a good knife, a better whistle, a survival blanket or bivvie, a small 1st aid kit and a firestarting flint, it's not a bad thing for situations where you aren't going to be too deep in the outback. But all by itself.....
